All India Institute of Local Self Government Mumbai had organized training session for all the corporators of NMMC at the civic HQ in Belapur. The session was addressed by Laxmanrao Latke – the Director of the Institute. The Director informed the corporators present on how their decorum within the house, the questions can raise, the importance of ‘Point of Order’, the rights of Mayor besides other duties of the corporator. He also informed that at times when opposition members create disruption, the role of the mayor attains significance. The training session is especially for those corporators who are latecomers or waste time in the house. We caught up with Lakshamanrao Latke about what is mandatory for corporators to follow. Laxmanrao Latke informed about what members should do if the Mayor approves any proposal in the middle of an argument or debate. He says if any corporator’s name is mentioned in the minutes of a meeting for using unconstitutional language, then it is necessary to take action against him. He says when ruling members are late for a meeting then the members present can form a quorum and can submit it to Secretary. Unfortunately only around 70% corporators understood the significance of the session and were present for it. With cameraperson Kala Jadhav, Monica Bhosale for NMTV News.
