The 89 members NMMC general body approved Rs 25 crore addition to the Rs.232 crore addition approved by the 16 members Standing Committee of the corporation making the NMMC budget total Rs.1654.8086 crores. The 16 member of the standing committee deliberated for 2 days and the chairman MLA Sandeep Naik announced plans for the city pushing NMMC’s administrator proposed budget of Rs. 1397.61 crores further up by Rs.232 crore. However in contrast to the healthy discussion of the Standing Committee, there were hardly 15 to 25 members out of the total 89 members who attended the one day budget deliberation in the NMMC’s general body. The mayor Anjani Bhoir, a mute spectator thought the day had to merely announce the additional outlay of Rs.25 Crore before declaring the budget approved around 9.30 p.m. In spite of all the adulations, the Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nahata, admitted and confessed some major failures of the municipal body, which he feebly assured to try to undo during the year, with no concrete road map or deadline. Every achievement attributed by the general body to Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik and the Civic Chief Vijay Nahata exposed the failure and slips of the earlier municipal chiefs and heads in the corporation. The overall statistic reveled that what the municipal body could not do in 12 years, was done in 3 years. This could be read as a 3 years success story or a 12 years saga of neglect and apathy towards the taxpayers. Luckily no one is punished even as the ruling corporators bask in the glory of the 3 years achievement, riding high into the forthcoming battle of the 4th general ballot of the corporation, due in April this year. Commissioner Vijay Nahata admitted failure in implementing the parking plans for the city and finalizing the hawker’s policy. What did not go amiss was Bharat Jadhav sitting with Bharat Nakhate on the NCP side in the house. With this the majority NCP corporators in the general body saw their rank swell with the lone BJP corporator in the House, Bharat Jadhav, and crossing over to NCP during the deliberation. This defection leaves the BJP with no representative in the NMMC General Body and comes as a big blow for the BJP party in Navi Mumbai ahead of municipal elections.
