mahasabha-NMMC General Body announced Diwali gift for its employees and workers. While the Diwali bonus amount was increased by an additional Rs 500, the general body also approved the pay hike to the employees of NMMT. It’s Diwali bonanza for the employees of Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), albeit with certain clauses. The NMMC General Body has approved the pay hike to the employees of the transport undertaking. However, the civic administration has proposed that the hike will be only for a period of one-year, during which NMMT must start earning profits or the increased salaries will be rolled back. Speaking to the media, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Jagannath Sinnarkar said that currently NMMT has a deficit of Rs20 lakh per month. However, he added that to implement the Sixth Pay Commission, the NMMC has kept four conditions in front of NMMT and that the civic administration will fund the pay hike of Rs 6 to 6.50 crore for one-year and within this period the transport service has to improve its financial health to continue getting the new salary scale. The Sixth Pay would be in effect from 1st November 2010. After implementation of the sixth pay, the salary of NMMT officials will get hiked by 25 to 30 percent. According to sources, current salary of drivers and conductors working with the undertaking is in a range of Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. After the passage of the proposal, the salaries will go up by Rs 3,300 to Rs 4,500 per month. Another significant proposal approved at the NMMC General Body was the Dilwai bonus to NMMC employees and workers. The Standing Committee had approved Rs 10000 bonus this year, over which the General Body approved an additional Rs 500 to the bonus. With cameraperson Satish Garud, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
