The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Best City Award For Improvement In Waste Water and Sanitation Services’ by the Central Government’s Urban Development Department for 2009-2010. The award ceremony was held in New Delhi. The award was received by Mayor Anjani Bhoir and Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nahata at the hands of Union Urban Developent Minister Jaipal Reddy. Speaking to NMTV News Dy. Editor Sana Warsia, Commissioner Vijay Nahata said that the award is prestigious more so as NMMC had not submitted any application to the Central Government’s UD Ministry for the award. Still, the NMMC’s efforts and achievements in the provision of civic amenities and development progression were duly considered and they were conferred with the award. NMMC’s hi-tech STP that is Sewerage Treatment Plants have earned national acknowledgement because the plants use the C-Tech technology to process sewerage water and purify their BOD levels to make them scientifically eligible for drinking purpose as well but NMMC intends to use it for industrialization, gardening and other purposes. The eco-friendly sewage system across the city consists of a 306 km-long sewage line connected to the eight sewage treatment plants set up across the various nodes in the city. Of these, the one located in Vashi Sector-18 is of 100 MLD capacity, Nerul Sector-50 is of 100 MLD capacity and Airoli Sector-18 is of 80 MLD capacity. Only after proper treatment of the sewage the water using the advanced ‘C-Tech’ method, the treated sewage water is discharged into the creek thereby preventing water pollution and preserving the aquatic life. Beyond any doubt, its definitely thumbs up to NMMC for winning one award after the other from the center that once again prove why Navi Mumbai is better off in comparison to neighboring cities Mumbai and Thane.
