It has become a joke of sorts. The media has been talking about violations in allotment of fire crackers stalls on Palm Beach Road and so is NMMC’s Chief Fire Officer. In fact, the Chief Fire Officer Vijay Rane has even issued notices to 48 of such stalls but says responsibility of action on violators is on NMMC HQ making laws and norms a joke of sorts for NMMC administration. Looks like the Chief Fire Officer of NMMC is fighting a lone battle against the politically influential fire crackers association on Palm Beach Road that are grossly violating fire safety norms. The officer has issued notices to 48 stalls situated at Palm Beach road for violating norms. What comes as a shock and concern is that even this year a minor fire was reported at one of the stalls due to short circuit. Sources from the NMMC Fire Fighting Dept. informed NMTV News that the fire crackers association’s president is NCP’s Mukund Vishwasrao who is known for not caring one bit about rules and norms of NMMC. And it is so well political sheltered by his party leaders that is encourages blatant violations of fire safety norms by stall owners. This is also the reason why he has not replied to the notices. A helpless Vijay Rane says that he can only issue notices not take action and hopes that once the Maharashtra Life Safety and Fire Prevention Act 2005 is implemented, they can take action against violators. Unfortunately with Diwali coming to an end and the NMMC administration not paying any heed to Chief Fire Officer Vijay Rane’s objections and notices, looks like the persons in charge of implementing laws are themselves making a mockery of it.
