In a first-of-its-kind move, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has provided insurance cover to all the students studying in the primary section that is from class I to VII of the civic schools. There are a total of 26,245 students in NMMC schools who will benefited from the insurance scheme. NMMC has joined hands with New India Insurance Company for this scheme. Under this scheme, parents can claim up to Rs 2 lakh in case of death or permanent disability of a child following an accident. Parents can also claim up to Rs 1 lakh in case of partial disability and Rs 10,000 in case of hospitalisation. In case of loss of study material, the child can claim up to Rs 5,000 under this insurance scheme. NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata presented a cheque of Rs 14.47 lakh to New India Insurance Company’s Manager Ajay Gupta at NMMC headquarters. This is a major decision taken by the NMMC. For the first time, such an insurance policy has been taken by any municipal corporation for its students. Nahata voiced that the insurance policy will provide huge relief to parents. On this occasion, NMMC Education Committee Chairman Dinesh Kanani along with the secretary and other committee members and officials were also present.
