The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has many firsts and records to its credit. And the trend continues with its latest budget with an estimate of Rs 3,850 Crores for 2020-21, which also includes the opening balance of Rs 1,217 Crore from the revised budget estimate of Rs 4,275.31 crore for the financial year 2019-20.
Rs 5 LACS MEDICAL COVER FOR CITIZENS EARNING BELOW RS 4 LACS A YEAR
With an estimated income of Rs 3,850 crore and expenditure of Rs 3,848.91 crore, the NMMC has calculated a surplus of Rs 1.09 crore this year. The NMMC plans to earn Rs 3,850 crore through local body tax, property tax, development fees, licence and advertising fees, encroachment fees, and State and Central schemes. One of the biggest highlights of the budget has been allocation of Rs 5 lacs medical cover for citizens who earn salaries below 4 lacs per annum. In one of his recent address, Ganesh Naik, NMMC’s guardian since its inception; spoke about the same and said that NMMC could perhaps well be the first municipal corporation to introduce this.
MAJOR THRUST ON INFRASTRUCTURE FOR BETTER COMMUTE & WATER SUPPLY
Among other things the budget has invested majorly in infrastructure for better commute and upgrading water supply system in Navi Mumbai.
MORE NMMC CBSE SCHOOLS TO COME UP IN NAVI MUMBAI
The concept of CBSE schools run by NMMC have been a major hit among parents and students. The NMMC plans to launch more CBSE schools in the city.
The focus will also be on women and senior citizens.
With the decision of not increasing water tax and property tax for another 5 years, NMMC has presented once of its most populist budget this time round. Now the onus of ensuring that the medical cover of Rs 5 lacs reaches genuine cases is on the NMMC administration once the policy comes into effect.
