NMMT planning to launch hybrid buses for Mumbai Darshan

The civic transport body is thinking of using the recently launched hybrid buses to ferry residents for a Navi Mumbai/Mumbai Darshan.

As per preliminary plans, the transport body is planning to tie up with MTDC to operate the buses. “We plan to operate Mumbai Darshan trips starting from the city to promote the concept of hybrid buses. We could also include a couple of sightseeing destinations in Navi Mumbai,” said a NMMT official.

According to the transport body, there is considerable demand for Mumbai Darshan from the residents. “People often spend around Rs 600 for Mumbai Darshan, so we are assuming that a service by the corporation will be welcome. We will be discussing the prospect with MTDC and a decision is likely to be taken at the earliest,” said the official.

Hybrid buses are said to consume less fuel as they operate on electricity, resulting in less air pollution and reduction in noise levels.
