Observing the increasing population of Navi Mumbai, NMMT has come up with a proposal of purchasing 300 buses on BOO system. The tenders are yet to be floated as the approval of MMRTA is still pending but would be implemented soon by mid of June month. NMMT will be soon purchasing buses on BOO system. The proposal has been already approved in the General body meeting and needs MMRTA approval after the system will be implemented. NMMT Transport manager Jitendra Papalkar gave us more insight. He also informed that the staff with NMMT identification, badges and uniforms will be appointed by the contractor, taxes and octroi will also be paid by the contractor. The buses will be maintained by NMMC. The transport body will also decide on the routes of the buses, the fare rates and the number of trips to be completed. He informed about certain conditions that would be stated in the contract. Further he informed about the benefits that the citizens as well as the transport body would get from these buses.
