While NMMT workers have taken back their strike, the issue is yet not resolved between the NMMT administration and the workers, hence, still inconveniencing bus commuters. It maybe recalled that NMMT workers had gone on an indefinite strike for a week which had inconvenienced the commuters. Finally taking a decision in the matter, the NMMT administration has cancelled its contract with the contractors of these workers, Nimajit and Bhumi and have inturn hired these workers on a daily wage basis. In the midst of al this, NMMT had also held examinations for 9000 candidates out of which 600 were selected, but later on the administration cancelled the recruitment procedure itself. Papalkar says that the recruitment procedure was cancelled by the Transport Appointing authority. After verification and reappointment, the conductors will be paid 250 whereas drivers will receive 300 per day. The process is likely to take a week, which means that while the strike is over, commuters will still have to face inconvenience as not all the buses will go on the road till the process of hiring is over.
