It’s NMTV News Impact. Taking cognizance of our report on the Pawne homes built under the Valmika Ambedkar Awaas Yojna and Adivasi homes, the NMMC has decided to combine two homes at Pawne so that the slum dwellers accept the homes and have assured of inaugurating the adivasi homes in Nerul within 10 days. It may be recalled NMTV News had aired a report on how the adivasi families of Nerul could not move into their new homes due to the pending inauguration of the homes by NMMC. On the other hand, the slum dwellers who were to be rehabilitated at Varlipada MIDC in Pawne under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awaas Yojna refuses to shift into their new homes as they were been given extremely small homes that were impossible for human occupancy. NMMC had built homes for nearly 40 adivasis of Pawne with an expenditure of Rs. 73 Lakhs. Taking action on our report, NMMC has decided to combine two Pawne homes and make it one so that the less space complaint of the slum dwellers could be addressed and they would move in the homes. NMMC would bear an additional expense of Rs. 22 lakhs for doing this. The DMC informed that if the affected do not move into the homes even after this, they would demolish the illegal slum settlements they are living in without any compensation whatsoever. As far as the advasi homes at Nerul are concerned, the DMC informed that the NMMC has planned to inaugurate the homes within 10 days so that the adivasis families could move in the homes without any further delay.
