Following the MCGM, nominations were filed for the top two political offices at the Thane Municipal Corporation as well. Nominations for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor were filed at the Thane Municipal Corporation. Each post saw two candidates filing nominations – one each from Shiv Sena and the other by Congress-NCP. Having a majority, the Shiv Sena is most likely to win both the seats. This would be the 18th election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s posts at TMC. From the NCP- Congress combine Nazeeb Mullah of NCP filed his nominations for the Mayor’s post while Congress’s Subhash Kharkar filed his nominations for the post of the Dy. Mayor. From the Shiv Sena, Ashok Vaiti filed nomination for Mayoral post while Shiv Sena’s Manoj Lase filed his nominations for the Deputy Mayor’s post. If we look at the numbers of seats with each political party at the Thane Municipal Corporation, then Shiv Sena holds 49 seats while BJP holds 5, independents hold 9 and RPI Indise group holds 3 seats. In this way ruling has 66 seats with it. While NCP has 27 seats, Congress has 13 seats and with the support of three other independent parties the opposition party has 43 seats in total. Since there are chances that the 3 MNS corporators and four Samajwadi Party corporators would remain neutral, Shiv Sena might sails through the elections for both the top political offices at TMC with ease.
