The nominations for NMMC ward no. 2 and 7, awaiting by elections have been filed. In totality 19 candidates have filed their nominations for the by elections of ward no. 2 and 7 at Airoli. The posts went vacant after the murder of NCP’s Devidas Chougule and the resignation of Vijay Chougule from NCP. Sena’s Kishore Anant Gaikar has filed the nominations from ward no. 2 while Vijay Chougule has filed nominations from ward no. 7. The elections have become a prestige issue for the Sena led by Vijay Chougule and the NCP led by Guardian Minister Ganesn Naik. Speak to him on these lines and this is what Vijay Chougule says. The NCP has made Anil Gavte their candidate from ward no. 7 and Gopal Mahale from ward no. 2. Both the candidates filed the nominations in the presence of NCP leader Sanjeev Naik. Congress has refrained from fielding any candidate from ward no. 7 on grounds that it is a sensitive area, while they have nominated Brijesh Mishra as their official candidate from ward no. 2. Congress Navi Mumbai Chief Namdeo Bhagat informed more. In totality 19 candidates have filed their nominations from these two wards. Despite the elections being very small in nature, it has attained significance as NCP has taken it up as a prestige issue to prove their might in Navi Mumbai while for Sena strongman Vijay Chougule, the elections pose more or less like a do or die situation.
