The nominations for the post of NMMC Standing Committee Chairman were filed in NMMC. Speculations were high in political circles on who will be the Chairman of the most coveted seat of NMMC, the Standing Committee. These speculations were put to rest when NCP’s Anant Sutar filed his nominations at NMMC Secretary Office in the presence of MLA Sandeep Naik, Mayor Sagar Naik along with party workers. He handed over his nominations to NMMC Secretary Chandrakant Deokar. Anant Sutar, the chief of the Ashtvinayak Group who defected from the Shiv Sena, is said to have been a close confidante of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. Anant Sutar is the only corporator who has been the Standing Committee member for seven years. Being a senior corporator of the civic body, he has knowledge over the city’s issue and the proposals passed in NMMC. However, the realk reason being cited to choose Anant Sutar over other NCP members in Standing Committee is that the NCP knows that they are weak in Airoli and if they have to build the party’s strength in the region, then corporators elected from Airoli, will have to be given more power in NMMC and that is why Anant Sutar has been chosen. We spoke with MLA Sandeep Naik on the party’s choice for Standing Committee Chairman. Candidate Anant Sutar, whose victory is confirmed in these elections, said that he would work on the lines of their party chief Ganesh Naik. Another candidate who filed his nominations for the post of NMMC Standing Committee Chairman was Shiv Sena’s Vijayanand Mane and just like the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, its obvious that the nominations have been filed only for record sake. Now it would be a challenging task for Anant Sutar to play the role of the Chairman like that of MLA Sandeep Naik and also fulfill the expectation of NCP leadership in Navi Mumbai of strengthening the party’s hold in Airoli constituency. Something that will play a major role in the next parliamentary and assembly polls for NCP in the region. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
