Non seasonal and erratic rains have spelt doom for the yield of vegetables in the state. The same is evident if one visits the APMC Market. Vegetables from yields of Maharashtra and nearby states are daily transported to the APMC Market in Navi Mumbai. While one always relied for buying the freshest of fresh vegetables from APMC, the present scenario is worrisome as close to rotten vegetables are mostly spotted for sale at APMC. The non-seasonal and erratic rains have been the reason why vegetables ranging tomatoes to cauliflower, capsicum, beans and spinach – none are being delivered or sold in their fresh forms. And despite the vegetables being sold in such conditions, the prices continue to be very high. Merchants say that everyday nearly 50% of the vegetables that arrive at the market are being sent to the dumping ground directly, which is causing huge losses. Bureau report – NMTV News.
