A war of accusations and blame game has started between Shiv Sena, BJP and Congress as a nullah-desilting scam rocked BMC. The issue was raised during the weekly standing committee meet.
Though there was a single bidder for a proposal of desilting major nullahs in the island city, Shiv Sena approved the proposal even as Congress corporators demanded tenders be called again.
It may be recalled that after June 19 floods of last year, this scam was unearthed. As always the reason for water logging during floods that time was because of negligence of the BMC contractor. The opposition blamed the ruling Shiv Sena for this failure. An enquiry is underway while 80 BMC officials are under the scanner.
While demanding that the proposal be sent back to the Commissioner for a second time, the Congress demanded a visit to nullah sites in the city.
While the Congress laid the fingers of blame on one “Bandra Ka Sahab” from Shiv Sena pressurizing the approval of this one contractor for the job, Shiv Sena justified its stand saying that they were satisfied with the BMC Commissioner’s reply and any further delay in approving the proposal would result in water logging again this year, as nullahs wont be cleaned on time.
