OFFICIALS APATHY TO REPLY TO QUERIES AND IN FIGHTING WITHIN NCP FORCES CANCELLATION OF STANDING COMMITTEE AT NMMC

standing-comm-5The non conduct of the NMMC Standing Committee meet last week has become a subject of hectic debate in municipal circles. Navi Mumbai News Spcl. Correspondent from NMMC Vishwarath Nayar reports that the loss of majority of the ruling party in the Standing Committee due to the rebellion raised by Chairman Vijay Chougule against the Ganesh Naik faction of NCP in the city, is learnt to be instrumental for the deliberate instigation of official apathy towards conduct of an important meeting of the corporation, as per one opposition faction. The MS Chandrakant Deokar informed that there was no subject for the agenda from the head of departments and hence the Chairman called off the meeting. Another opposition faction opines that the conspiracy to render the SC under the chairmanship of the rebel chairman inconsequential as far as possible during the balance eight months of his one year tenure is a planned strategy of the ruling NCP – officials nexus. Strangely several corporators of the majority NCP in NMMC are complaining that complaining that most of their proposed civic works are kept pending even as most of the work of the rebelling members are approved and executed. NCP clarifies is stance by stating that since the Municipal Commissioner Madhukar Kokate is out of the country and the acting MC Sanjay Katkar, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Kongale and City Engineer Mohan Dagaonkar are undergoing a training course in Pune, subjects could not be taken up in the agenda and there was no issue of any strategy or conspiracy against anyone by the NCP leadership in nexus with any official. The municipal administration has failed to place replies to querries raised in the past 4-5 meetings and non-conduct of the meetings id proving a relief to those officials, particularly the Town Planning Officer who has managed to evade replies to all queries raised ever since Vijay Chougule has taken over as Chairman of the SC. Some of the key issues raised include the building permissions for Hiranandani Super Specialty Hospital, BSEL and Raheja complexes. The overall power play and officials apathy, is feared, could affect public and civic life in the city gravely.
