For the past 7 years, the only public hospital at Ghansoli has closed down forcing patients and the residents to travel to far off places for medical services. There was a time when the Shri Sadguru Seva Mandal Hospital at Ghansoli was the only hospital in Ghansoli in which poor people where given free medical services. The hospital used to provide medicines and various services from the charity received from Arvind Mafatlal’s NOCIL Company. However, in the year 2005, NOCIL Company shut down which adversely affected the working of the hospital. The hospital staff even sent their pleas of salary and employment to NOCIL Company and Maharashtra State but in vain as the deteriorating conditions resulted in closure. Poor locals, comprising most families of labors have to travel long distance to get affordable medical aid. Times of emergencies come as a nightmare. The non operational hospital has become a shelter for anti-social activities. Reliable sources reveal that the apathy of authorities and local leadership towards the poor and the hospital is done on purpose in connivance with land mafia as selling off the land to a private builder is on the cards.
