The Bharat Ratna Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial is one of the most awaited projects of Navi Mumbai. Something that the ruling front had promised during the elections. The first concrete step towards this was taken when the NMMC Standing Committee this week approved the proposal to constrict the memorial at a cost of Rs. 17 Crore. This project promises to be one of the highlights for the tenure of Standing Committee Chairman Anant Sutar. Bharat Ratna Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial – Navi Mumbai’s tribute to the great writer of the constitution and a project that promises to be a landmark in not just Airoli but Navi Mumbai itself. Though the plans on paper were ready a long time ago and the ruling front announced it as one of its election promises, a concrete step in this direction was taken this week, when the Standing Committee of NMMC approved a proposal on the construction of the memorial. The members were first given a presentation on how the memorial will be after construction. Some of the highlights of the project listed in the proposal include : * It will be spread on an area of 5750 sq. mts. * Planned construction area 2310 sq. mts. * The structure will have a 45 meter high beautifully designed dome. * The dome will have glass fibre reinforced concrete panel. * Amphitheatre and stage area * Water body on ground floor * Administrative office * Multipurpose hall * Art area * Library and cafeteria * Prayer Hall on 1st floor and podium garden * Beautification of entire area of the plot with streetlights The work of the Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial has been awarded to M/s Eagle Construction Company at a cost of Rs. 17 Crore 44 Lacs 85 Thousand 464. The contractor will construct the memorial in a period of 2 years. Members of the Standing Committee voiced happiness and commended the proposal. As a Standing Committee member, Sudhakar Sonawane had always voiced the sentiments of the Dalit community while demanding the construction of the memorial. After the proposal was approved, the media caught up with NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Anant Sutar. For Anant Sutar, the approval of constructing Bharat Ratna Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial will be one of the highlights of his tenure as Standing Committee Chairman. Informing the media the struggle NMMC put up for the plot, he said that the Guardian Minister had met the Chief Minister to get the plot. Like many in the city, Chairman Anant Sutar voiced high expectations from the project. And the NCP corporator in whose ward the memorial is all set to come is Standing Committee member Ashok Patil. Voicing elation over the fact that the prestigious project is coming in his ward, Ashok Patil welcomed the project. He also commended the role of Guardian Minister in getting the plot for the project. Now that Navi Mumbai is all set to get another major landmark of the great leader, one only hopes that leaders and corporators are also inspired by the life and teachings of Bharat Ratna Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar and imbibe it while fulfilling their responsibilities as public representatives.
