Opposition parties in the state council on Thursday said that a CBI inquiry must be conducted into the Rs 352 crore road scam and expose those officials and political leaders who are responsible for this.
The matter was raised by Congress leader Narayan Rane who said that there has been a scam of around Rs 9,000 crore over the last three years. The quality of work done on the roads is very poor and several audits have revealed that the material used was substandard. “None of the road construction work taken up in Mumbai is as per the laid down norms, and hence, it is necessary to have a CBI inquiry and find out who is responsible for this sorry state of affairs,” Rane said.
The matter was also taken up by the leader of opposition Dhananjay Munde of the NCP who said that the audit for the roads department should be done by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) since it had the courage to do an honest job,” he felt. The bad quality of roads had resulted in severe harassment for the citizens of Mumbai and hence severe action needs to be taken on those responsible for this.
