_adarsh-soc-1The Shiv Sena-BJP opposition handed over a memorandum to Governor K Shankarnarayanan, demanding immediate dismissal of the Chief Minister Ashok Chavan government for its involvement in the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam. The Congress government has given the opposition what it needed – a justified issue to attack them. Flats constructed for war widows were cornered by politicians, top officials and relatives of political heavyweights – the opposition members took up this issue with the Governor K Shankarnarayanan demanding the immediate dismissal of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan as Chief Minister. The leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly, Eknath Khadse, said the scam has given a bad name to Maharashtra in its golden jubilee year. Opposition Leader Eknath Khadse said that the governor should dismiss the Chavan government and set up an enquiry against former chief ministers, ministers and bureaucrats who signed the case at various stages and got flats allotted for their relatives. He pointed out that some top officials guilty of neglecting their duty were also not punished after 2611. He asked the governor to find out how top officials who were supposed to verify members of the society managed to include their own or their relatives’ names as members of the society. Such cases should not go unpunished, he appealed. BJP leaders Vinod Tawde and Sudhir Mungantiwar were also part of the delegation along with Vrinda Kitikar the President of the BJP Mumbai Women’s Morcha. The Shiv Sena was represented by Subhash Desai, Diwakar Raote and others. Subhash Desai wanted to know why the society did not seek OC from the MCGM. He claimed the society got the OC from the MMRDA to hasten the process to hide discrepancies in paperwork. Raj Bhavan sources said the meeting lasted 20 minutes and the governor promised the delegation he would look into the matter. The issue is definitely going to rock the winter session of the state assembly and will be a challenge for who so ever will become the Chief Minister of the state. Bureau report – NMTV News.
