The NCP party gheraoed TMC Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre demanding that priority should be given to educational institutions during allotments of plot. TMC had recently floated tenders for educational plots. Under Thane Municipal Corporation’s School vision, 66 plots in the city have been reserved for educational purpose out of which 10 plots were to be distributed on lease to the educational institutions. The civic body had also floated tenders for the same. However immediately after this, protest was seen by the NCP party who demanded that priorities should be given to local educational institutions while allotting plots. The party workers gheraoed TMC Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre with their demand. A replica of the protest witnessed at MCGM was also seen here where angered women party workers advised the commissioner to wear bangles. NCP MLA Jitendra Ahwad stated that after meeting the commissioner, the circulation of the advertisements for tenders had been stopped. However, TMC commissioner Nandkumar Jantre disagreed with Ahwad’s statements informing that the proposal was not canceled but the date was postponed. Meanwhile Thaneits feel that with the ongoing arguments between the administration and political leaders, education is hardly given any importance. From Thane, Manoj Singh for NMTV News.
