The protest of the opposition on the decision of the Home MInsiter to withdraw MCOCA charges from gangster Abu Salem has intensified. The opposition created mayhem in the house over the decision of the state to remove the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against Abu Salem. The proceedings of house were stalled for sometime due to the protest. When it resumed Home Minister R R Patil informed the house that if the Maharashtra State had not withdrawn MCOCA charges, it would have violated the agreement with the Portuguese government and would have benefited the Salem. Opposition Leader Ramdas Kadam however blamed the state for the same. If Abu Salem does manage to get bail after withdrawal of MCOCA charges, it will be a defeat of sorts of the state government.
