NCP MP Padmasinh Patil’s arrest by the CBI in connection with the Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder case was another issue that rocked Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, with Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP members seeking resignation of Home Minister Jayant Patil on the issue. Immediately after the proceedings began on Monday in the state assembly, Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam raised the issue of Padmasinh’s arrest. The opposition claimed that Congress-NCP government tried to hush up the murder case and that’s why the CBI did in six months what the state police couldn’t do in three years. Opposition Leader Ramdas Kadam said that the slain Pawanraje Nimbalkar was exposing Padamsinh Patil’s scams that were taken up by Anna Hazare. The opposition said that the Padamsinh Patil arrest has exposed politicization of police and criminalization of politics. The NCP too seemed to be distancing itself from taking responsibility for Padamsinh Patil’s arrest. Dy. Chief Minister and Senior NCP Leader Chagan Bhujbal stated that if Patil had done wrong, he’d suffer. Padamsinh Patil was suspended from the party later during the week.
