NMMC has turned down Panvel Municipal Council’s demand of providing water supply to them from morbe dam. The council had asked for 25mld of water from NMMC. There is no respite for Panvel Municipal Council, which is reeling under acute water scarcity due to the delayed monsoon. It is learnt that under the present circumstances, there is no surplus water in Morbe dam and hence the question of supplying water to PMC does not arise. Almost a hundred years ago Panvel Municipal Council had constructed the Dehrang dam. The population of Panvel is nearly 1.5 lakhs with a need of 24 mld water supply daily. Panvel city get 10 mld of water from the Dehrang dam and the remaining is distributed to Maharashtra Jeevan pradhikaran and MIDC. However with old pipelines, leakage is a very common issue that is being faced by the MJP. Hence to meet the demand of the people, Panvel Municipal Council had asked for water supply from the Morbe dam of NMMC. However, a final decision in this connection is yet to be taken at the NMMC general body which is likely to meet by the month end. With cameraperson Raju Sharma, Anil More for NMTV News.
