Last year, the 26/7 deluge took away lots of lives in Navi Mumbai, especially in Panvel. To pay tribute to them, the Panvel Municipal Council is making a commemorative in their memory. The heavy rains and subsequent floods on the 26th of July last year claimed hundreds of lives in the city. The most affected area was Panvel, which saw several people losing their lives and property to the heavy showers. Many of them lost their families. The presentees remembered those who lost their lives and recognized the role of each towards significantly contributing in the prosperity of Panvel. To pay tribute to them, the Panvel Municipal Council has decided to build a memorial. This memorial will be built in between the lake that faces the Panvel Municipal Council office. Apart from marking respect for the victims of the 26/7 deluge, this memorial will also salute those Panvel residents who stood united and strong during and after the 26/7 floods. The decision to make the memorial was made by the Panvel Municipal Council in a meeting held recently where MLA Vivek Patil was also present. The memorial will be built with an expenditure of Rs. 25 lakhs. During the meet MLA Vivek Patil announced that out of the 25 Lakhs, 10 lakhs would be donated from the MLA funds. This memorial would be completed next year and its inauguration would be done on the same day, the 26th July, next year.
