The first non-English speaking film to win Best Picture

Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece satire ‘Parasite’ a South Korean black comedy thriller film achieved a milestone victory by expanding the horizons of the ninety-two years of Oscar history and taking home the award for the Best Picture, thereby establishing itself to be the first non-English speaking film to win the Academy’s most prestigious award.
Bong Joon-ho’s movie ‘Parasite’ revolves around a low earning income family who infiltrates a wealthy household posing themselves as qualified individuals, only to learn a much darker secret lying await.
Parasite has bagged itself a string of awards including the Bafta and the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film festival.
It won Hollywood’s top prize making a sweeping Oscar history on Sunday night, along with awards for best director, best international film and best screenplay.
Bong expressed in multiple interviews that it was a wild ride for him and that he didn’t expect such a fandom sprouting around ‘Parasite’.
