The truck drivers of Kalamboli Steel Market are facing huge inconvenience due to the alleged goondaism attitude of the contractor of parking in the area. The truck drivers allege that despite the actual charges of Rs 20 for parking, the contractor collects more than the fixed amount. Sudhir Sharma reports. Truck drivers of the Kalamboli Steel Market have a set of woes with the contractor of the area who they allege violates rules by collecting upto Rs. 100 to 750 Rupees instead of the legally approved Rs. 20. And if anyone refuses to pay, they are allegedly physically assaulted. The contractor SS Enterprises was appointed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Iron and Steel Market and should abide by CIDCO Parking Rules and Rates that clearly state that parking charges for vehicles parked above 8 hours is Rs. 20. Numerous complaints to authorities including CIDCO and Traffic Police fall on deaf ears. When we met the contractor he said that he was collecting charges according to rules given to him in writing but refused to show them to us. On the other hand, ACP Traffic Navi Mumbai Nandkumar Chougule said that the problems will rest soon as the Kalamboli Steel Market is soon going to get a truck terminal.
