NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s “lessen-my-burden” googly has left Congressmen a bit puzzled. Those who are familiar with Pawar-politics view this demand as nothing but a ploy to get one more berth in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet. If he has his way, sources say, chances are that State Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal may become a Union Minister. Citing his additional responsibility after being elected to head the International Cricket Council, or ICC, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Food Processing and Food and Civil Supplies requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lessen his ministerial burden by taking away one of the three portfolios. What he didn’t tell the PM though, he is keen on letting go one of the three ministries, he wants one of his party men to shoulder the responsibility. Sharad Pawar’s argument has been that whatever has been with the NCP should remain with it. The Congress may find it tough to accept this line. However according to sources, the primary reason compelling Sharad Pawar to take Bhujbal to Delhi is that he is the only OBC leader in a party dominated by Marathas. Bureau report – NMTV News.
