A petition to transfer the murder case of Airoli corporator Devidas Chougule from Navi Mumbai police to the CBI has been dismissed by the Mumbai High Court. Satisfied with the statement of the public prosecutor on the progress in investigations, the Mumbai High Court dismissed the writ petition filed by Prerna Chougule, the wife of the slain corporator Devidas Chougule. In her prayer before the court, the petitioner had stated that she did not have any faith in the investigations of Navi Mumbai police in the sensational killing of Chougule in Airoli last year. The petition further stated that though the name of state cabinet minister Ganesh Naik had been mentioned in the FIR, the police had failed to arrest him. Public prosecutor Satish Borulkar, however, told the court that investigations by the police had not revealed the involvement of the Minister. The police have already filed the charge-sheet and also got permission under Section 173 (8) of the CRPC to conduct further investigations in the case. The prosecutor also informed the court that two key accused persons have been arrested in the murder case, and guns have also been recovered, indicating that the investigations were proceeding in the right direction.
