Another feature of the Airoli by elections was the manner in which the police and NMMC ensured free, fair and smooth elections. The worst was expected during the Airoli by-elections besides fears that tampering with free and fair elections will be attempted. But meticulous planning by NMMC and the Navi Mumbai police gave no scope for complaints to either political parties or voters. The Navi Mumbai police converted the two wards into a fortress of sorts with intense police personnel and security. Commissioner of police Ramrao Wagh ably assisted by DCP Amar Jadhav and DCP R T Shinde cleared the roads to the voting doing combing operations and ensuring no party tiffs at any polling booths. They did not permit crowd to gather anywhere giving open and secure atmosphere for the voters to cast their vote. On the other hand, the NMMC that could have been charged with various allegations by either political party during the sensitive elections made systematic arrangements. Under Commissioner Vijay Nahata ably assisted by election officer DMC Amrish Patnigire, the NMMC gave no chance of complaint or mischief to any political party will the ending of counting. Without able administration and effective management by both the Navi Mumbai police and NMMC, voters – in one of the most tense NMMC elections could not have exercised their right to vote with utmost ease and security.
