Kharghar residents expressed their frustration and ire at the poor service provided by MTNL in the node. Various issues pertaining to insufficient staff and no facility to pay the bills over the counter has been creating concern among the residents. The presence of MTNL exchange is of little use to the residents of Kharghar. The three year old building, is yet to have the needed machinery and staff for accepting bill payments over the counter. According to the residents, the office has a drop box and are asked to drop in cheques in this box. There is no facility to pay the bill immediately, the reason being no staff for accepting bill payments over the counter. Residents then have to travel to Nerul or Vashi for the billing needs which even becomes a wastage of time if the payment is very less. When we met the sub-divisional engineer, Kharghar branch, PM Philipose, he refused to speak on camera but accepted that there is a shortage of staff and the issue has been forwarded to the General Manager of MTNL. It must also be noted that over a period of time the number of connections have increased all over the city, but there have been no recruitments in the company since last 10 years. At the same time, many people have retired from their service and many of them have taken VRS. Therefore, there has been a huge difference in the ratio of working lines and the staff. And unfortunately while Kharghar boosts of a posh node, the residents are not even provided with the basic facility of communication. With cameraperson Vivek Gaikwad, Vrushali Chitre for NMTV news.
