R R Patil is back as Maharashtra’s home minister, reinstated to the post he had to relinquish almost a year ago after the 26/11 terror attacks. Patil had to quit after making a statement in Hindi that appeared to play down the deadly attacks. Chief minister Ashok Chavan announced the portfolios after hectic lobbying for the creamy and sensitive revenue department. Both Narayan Rane and Patangrao Kadam were eyeing it and the CM gave it to Rane on the high command’s order. Kadam has been given the lesser important forest ministry. Following are the portfolios given to the top Congress Ministers: ASHOK CHAVAN PORTFOLIO – Hsg & Urban Devpt, Cultural Affairs. EARLIER HELD – Urban Devpt, Housing, Protocol NARAYAN RANE PORTFOLIO – Revenue EARLIER HELD – Industries and Ports BALASAHEB THORAT PORTFOLIO – Agri, Water Conservation, School Edu EARLIER HELD – Agriculture R VIKHE-PATIL PORTFOLIO – Transport EARLIER HELD – School Education, Law PATANGRAO KADAM PORTFOLIO – Forest EARLIER HELD – Revenue, Rehabilitation The portfolios held by top NCP Ministers CHHAGAN BHUJBAL PORTFOLIO – Public Works Department EARLIER HELD – PWD AJIT PAWAR PORTFOLIO – Energy and Water Resources EARLIER HELD – Water Resources R R PATIL PORTFOLIO – Home Department He was Dy CM with addl. charge of Home JAYANT PATIL PORTFOLIO – Rural Development EARLIER HELD – Home SUNIL TATKARE PORTFOLIO – Finance & Planning EARLIER HELD – Energy GANESH NAIK PORTFOLIO – Excise EARLIER HELD – Excise, Environment Intra-party fights within the Congress and NCP were responsible for the portfolios being finalised so late.
