With NMMC yet to rectify the issue of the wall collapse at Bokarpada, residents of the city have now become victims of the tanker lobby. Taking advantage of the water crisis being massively felt in the city, water tank companies are charging exorbitant rates from residents. It’s been more than three weeks to the incident of the wall collapse at NMMC’s Bokarpada filtration tank. Till now NMMC has been unable to resolve the issue because of which residents are facing one of the most worst water crisis of the city. Helpless residents have no option but to shift to water tankers to fulfill their daily routines. However, more than an aid, the residents have become victims of the tanker lobby with the latter charging exorbitant rates to the residents. Residents informed that the rates have reached to Rs 2500 to Rs 3000. Agitated residents say that when it is the fault if NMMC, why were they penalized for it. Residents even stated that NMMC did not even have an alternative or back up plans for to tackle technical defaults like that of the Bokarpada incident. On the other hand, the tankers said that they had to stand in huge queues to get their tankers filled. But they did not deny that with the residents demand, even prices had gone up.
