manda-tai-award1It was a proud moment for Navi Mumbai and particularly the Agri community as MLC Manda Mhatre became the first agri woman leader to win the “Maharashtra legislatures’ Best Orator Award” for the year 2005-06 at the hands of President Pratibha Patil. An inspiration for women all over, MLC Manda Mhatre added another feather in her hat by becoming the first Agri woman leader to win “Maharashtra legislatures’ Best Orator Award” for the year 2005-06. And it was fitting recognition of MLC Manda Mhatre’s work as the award was given to her at the hands of the first woman President of India Pratibha Patil. It may be recalled that MLC Manda Mhatre has always public issues of Navi Mumbai in the legislative council – some major issues include conservation and restoration of the heritage fort and pond at Kille Gaonthan, getting the in principle approval for the re-development of the staff quarters of the Navi Mumbai police, taking up the issue of regularization of homes in gaonthan areas and FSI to CIDCO built homes. It may be recalled that even NMMC’s School Vision was taken up only after MLC Manda Mhatre visited NMMC schools, saw the deplorable conditions prevailing in the schools and raised the issue in the council that compelled the state to immediately sanction Rs 50 lacs for NMMC School Vision. The state recognized the fact that MLC Manda Mhatre not only raised issues pertaining to Navi Mumbai but of poor and deprived across the entire state of Maharashtra including female feoticide, farmers’ issues, health and women empowerment. We met MLC Manda Mhatre on the award. The leader shared with us the issues she has raised in the house. She also shared her elation on receiving the award at the hands of the first woman President. MLC Manda Mhatre gave the credit of the award to her leader and the masses.
