PRIVATE DEVELOPER TAKES POSSESION OF RTO PLOT AT NERUL

r-t-o-3The issues of de-reserving plots mean for public amenities and social plots continue to haunt city planning and development. This time a plot reserved for the RTO has been de-reserved and a private developer is doing construction on the plot. After much efforts and follow up, the Navi Mumbai Regional Transport Office was allotted plots 52 and 53 in sector 19A, Nerul for the RTO Office and Automotive Training Center. For an office that has been operating from rented premises and shifting like nomads each time given a notice, CIDCO’s finally allotting them plots was a reason for joy but this was short-lived. Once again CIDCO did what it always does – it de-reserved one of the plots and presently one can see the Lakhani Group constructing their project on the same plot. According to sources at CIDCO, the Lakhani group was allotted this plot over a decade ago and since they had not done any construction on the plot for over 10 years, according to CIDCO rules, the builder was issued a notice of cancellation of allotment in the year 2004. It was only after this, that the plot was re-allotted to the RTO. But after the in principle allotment, the Lakhani Group once again managed to change CIDCO’s decision and the on going construction by the group is proof of this. At the builder’s office, the developer was not available for comments. This isn’t the first time that CIDCO has de-reserved a plot so that a private developer commercially exploits it. The RTO Office has pinned all their hopes on CIDCO JMD Deepak Kapoor who recently attended their event and said that the plot for RTO has been allotted.
