Just before the Assembly elections the Shiv Sena dominated civic standing committee gave a hurried nod to three proposals totalling worth Rs 393 crore during a 90-minute meeting. The three projects are the Rs 243-crore redevelopment project at R.N. Cooper Hospital, Rs 97 crore to set up a trauma centre in Jogeshwari and Rs 53 crore allotment for the redevelopment of Poonam Nagar Market in Andheri. The standing committee has cleared three major projects and Uddhav Thackeray would be laying the foundation stone for them on August 15, said Standing Committee chairman and Sena leader Ravindra Waikar. Apparently, the projects were given a nod in a hurry as after the code of conduct is in effect there will be no chance for any of the proposal to get a clearance in the civic standing committee. The Assembly elections are likely to be held in October. There have been times when the standing committee has delayed projects. The latest among them being that of the Deonar dumping ground which was delayed till a recent high court verdict cleared the project.
