Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar memorial – one of the most awaited NMMC projects, first approved during the tenure of airoli MLA Sandeep Naik during his tenure as standing committee chairman in NMMC, has finally seen the light of the day with thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik laying the foundation stone of dr babasaheb ambedkar bhavan memorial at sector 15 in airoli in a grand event.
People hailing from the backward classes in Navi Mumbai are a jubilant lot. One of their most awaited projects the Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar memorial’s construction is all set to begin. In a grand ceremony in airoli, thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik laid the foundation stone for the project in the presence of MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik, MLA Sandeep Naik, Mayor Sagar Naik and Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede, former Corporator Sudhakar Sonawane and other local corporators.
The Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar memorial was a proposal that persons of the backward class had been demanding for a long time now. The proposal however saw the light of the day during the tenure of MLA Sandeep Naik as NMMC standing committee chairman. At that time corporator sudhakar sonawane had demanded speeding the proposal in the standing committee. The continuous follow up of the issue of the standing committee members led by MLA Sandeep Naik led to the NMMC drafting a concrete proposal for the project. This later became one of the elections promises of the NCP during the assembly elections. And finally the project has kept its first concrete step with the foundation stone laying ceremony. The dr babasaheb ambedkar bhavan is coming at sector 15 in airoli. It will house facilities like a museum, a library consisting of all the literary works of ambedkar as well as a community centre. Speaking to the media post the inauguration, thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik said that the ambedkar bhavan would inform the future generation about this great leader.
On the other hand, MLA Sandeep Naik stressed that there was a need for a landmark for the sc and st community which could become an information centre for the people visiting Navi Mumbai. Recalling the time when the proposal was brought during his tenure as the standing committee chairman, MLA Sandeep Naik said that a change of use on the plot was needed which was taken up by thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik at that time.
