The NMMC General Body showered bonanza after bonanza on the citizens of the city in the wake of the forthcoming 4th General Municipal Elections in April 2010. We bring to you the proposals with this report. Right on top of list of bonanza showered in lieu of the NMMC General Body was : * The charges for the use of water by residential apartments that have been fixed at a flat rate of Rs. 50/- upto 30000 litres per month per family and Rs. 4.75/- per 1000 litres if more than 30000 litres is consumed per month. * The NMMC general body unanimously also approved the additional cost of works to be undertaken under the JNNURM integrated water supply Scheme in Navi Mumbai from Rs. 138 Crores to Rs. 205 Crores. * The naming of 51 civic amenities approved by the 6 municipal wards was unanimously approved by the NMMC general body, out of which 2 amenities – one garden in sector 18, Nerul proposed by Vijay Mane and one road in Digha village proposed by Aparna Gavte are named after Param Pujya Sant Sri Asaramji Bapu. * The NMMC general body approved Rs. 53.87 Lakhs for construction of a bus stop plaza at the L.P. Junction in Nerul and Rs. 78.05 Lakhs in Vashi on Sion-Panvel Highway as projected by Tandon and Associates. * The NMMC general body approved Rs. 29.78 Crores for the construction of a fly-over on Thane-Belapur road in Khairne-Bonkode as projected by Aakar Abhinav Consultants. * The NMMC general body approved an additional Rs. 12.11 Crores making it a total of Rs. 45.87 Crores for the construction of the 100 beds public hospital in Sector 15, Nerul. * The NMMC general body approved the change of all overhead electric lines in the nodes and gaothans in the city to underground lines at a cost of Rs. 64.87 Crores by K.J. Engineering. Earlier, the electric suppliers were to bear the costs and on their refusal, NMMC has approved to bear the cost. * The NMMC general body approved Rs. 1.71 Crores for construction of Heavy Duty RCC gutter in sector 1 to 4 in Koperkhairne as the present gutter is in a dilapidated state. * The NMMC general body approved the 100% waiver of property tax for all ex-servicemen or their spouse receiving pension will be eligible for this waiver. * The NMMC general body approved Rs. 16.04 Crores for the construction of the landmark Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial in sector 15, Airoli. * Surprisingly, the municipal administration threw caution to the winds when they forgot the secular tenets of the Indian Constitution and the Municipal Commissioner proposed the setting up an experimental basis bhajan classes. When Sudhakar sonawane questioned the constitutional authority for the same, the municipal chief Vijay Nahata immediately withdrew the proposal and stated the he would place the same for a music class.
