Rahul Gandhi mocks Modi government over Deonar dumping ground issue

Following his visit to the Deonar dumping ground, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticized and mocked the Narendra Modi government over its failure to resolve the issue amidst its Swachh Bharat mission. He said that mere slogans of Swachh Bharat will not work and there must be a plan to shut the dumping ground to ensure clean air for the people of Mumbai.

“Mumbai is an international city and a symbol of progress. The PM and the CM should ensure that the dumping ground is shut and citizens get clean air. They should act immediately. The pollution from the ground is causing problems for people living here,” said Gandhi, who, along with senior Congress leaders, was speaking after visiting the Deonar dumping ground.

“I met the residents of Chembur and one person was almost in tears. Children are getting affected by TB and other respiratory problems. A child has even died. His parents said he died of suffocation due to toxic gases emitted from the ground. Mere slogans won’t make any difference,” he said.
