mns-1The saffron camp faced a complete whitewash in its home turf Mumbai thanks to the MNS though the most humiliating defeat of the Shiv Sena is in the constituency of Thane. Raj Srikant Thackeray and his three-year-old Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have dealt a body blow to the 27-year-old Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra. However of all the defeats, the defeat in Thane is particularly humiliating. Considered to be one of the Sena’s safest seats, Thane this time will be represented by NCP’s Sanjiv Naik. In this case, MNS’ Rajan Raje took away a substantial number of Sena votes. As it became clear that MNS had comprehensively wrecked its chances, Shiv Sena blamed the Raj Thackeray-led party for “handing over the keys of the state to outsiders. Many Shiv Sena leaders are now admitting that the Sena leadership should have acknowledged Raj Thackeray’s potential. They say and I quote “We ignored Raj’s charisma, but voters didn’t”. On the other hand, BJP’s State President Nitin Gadkari admitted that the MNS factor has proved detrimental to the saffron camp. He has said that they didn’t overlook the MNS factor. But it proved more damaging than they anticipated. Bureau report – NMTV News.
