R.Ravindran Nayar, an ex-serviceman, resident of sector 17, Vashi and father of senior journalist Vishwarath Nayar passed away on January 23. He was 81 and suffering from prostate cancer. Ravindran Nayar served the Indian Navy as chief E.R.A. and later Firestone Tyres as chief Boiler Foreman. He participated in the Indian Naval Mutiny in 1946 and was felicitated by the Navi Mumbai Mayor, Vijaya Mhatre in 1999 at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi. He actively participated in the liberation of Goa in 1960, as also in the 1948 aggression on the borders, the1962 war against China and as a reserve in the 1971 Bangladesh liberation against Pakistan. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Association, Vashi and Navi Mumbai Ex-Servicemen’s Association. He is survived by his wife Parvati Leela Devi, son Vishwarath, daughters Yamunambica Chopra and Anita Mohanchandran and six grandchildren. A prayer meeting for the departed soldier will be held at Bombay Links building premises in sector 17, Vashi on Sunday, January 27 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. NMTV pays heartfelt condolences to the grieved family and pray that he rests in peace.
