ReliSeveral state government employees are making a beeline to get high paying jobs in the Reliance’s multi-crore Special Economic Zone coming up in Navi Mumbai. State government officials especially those working in the revenue department are knocking the doors of Reliance’s SEZ project in Navi Mumbai for high-paying jobs. This is because the most important aspect of the NMSEZ is land acquisition from CIDCO. Reliance needs nearly 15,000 hectares in Navi Mumbai and near Raigad. And hence, this becomes a very important task. But the procedure of land acquisition in Navi Mumbai is very difficult. Since, the government officials know the exact procedure, they are being given jobs by Reliance to help them acquire land in a time bound period. When Reliance opened doors for the revenue department officials, several decided to walk in. Former Revenue Secretary Ajit Warty was the first to join the SEZ project. Then former social welfare secretary Suresh Salvi, former MSRDC joint managing director R K Jha, former joint commissioner of police B S Mohite, and now former commerce secretary Vinay Bansal are in the process of taking up an assignment with the project. A large number of revenue department officials, of the rank of deputy collector and additional collector, have also applied for five-year leave under an existing scheme that allows an official to proceed on leave and then return to his department. The officials know that the Reliance offer is lucrative and if they get the chance, they will work there for 3 to 5years and then resume government duty.
