The central empowerment committee of the Supreme Court has reportedly said it would formally recommend to the court that all construction that had come up before June 22, 2005 be treated on par and be “de-reserved once and for all” on payment of afforestation charges. It’s a development that will bring cheer to about 4.5 lakh Mumbaikars whose houses are situated on forest land. The Central empowerment committee of the Supreme Court is reportedly ready with its recommendation on the constructions in forest land. Former MP Kirit Somaiya had recently made a presentation before the panel about the plight of the residents after which the CEC has asked Somaiya to submit further details about the residential societies, housing complexes and others that have existed on such land for five to 55 years. The next hearing is likely to be November 25. Bureau report – NMTV.
