Ignoring the convenience of the poor people, private builders come ahead for redevelopment plans for their building only to gain additional FSI and gain extra bucks. Builders do not even bother to get in the hassles getting permission from TMC. They simply register these houses earn lakhs of rupees leaving behind the poor to face the future problems. The state had introduced various re-development schemes for the poor but these schemes have today become a way of corruption for builders. Similar case can be seen at Louiswadi in Thane where a 7-storyed building has been constructed illegally. 40 years back instead of this building there were 13 chawls, but with the passage of time local residents were lured into re-development schemes. But who does not want a redeveloped home with and hence these chawls were redeveloped into a building by Bhanushali Shamal and Thomas Louis builders. As per the rules, before applying for any redevelopment scheme, builders must seek permission from the Town Planning department. Many believe that builders do not take permit from TMC so that they can illegally get additional FSI. It’s a depressing situation for these residents now as the builder has not bothered to take permission from the Town Planning Department or TMC. Take a look at what the builder has to say on this. When asked that the building was illegal, the builder gave the ruse of poor people. TMC had even sent numerous notices to the builder which the builder has conveniently ignored. When we tried to speak to the assistant commissioner of TMC Encroachment dept. Ranganath Wagh refused to comment and started informing us about the actions taken by them in the early days. It is believed that it is the nexus of builders, political leaders and TMC officials themselves because of which such illegal buildings are flourishing in Thane.
