kurla-1The residents of Kasaiwada situated near Kurla are reeling under pathetic conditions, with no provision of basic amenities like water and power supply. Kasaiwada is situated close to the Kurla east railway station with a major part of the settlement on the hills. The Kasaiwada is a very important part of history as the Indian Army had declared a prominent hill point as the Mumbai Centre. The settlement comprises a population of about 1.25 lakhs. The residents here have ration cards and other identification documents but unfortunately the area does not have any power supply and the pressure of the drinking water in taps has been reduced to a mere 14, something we found out from Kurla L ward which is supposed to supply water to these settlements. Apart from this, huge piles of garbage is seen everywhere. There is no proper school, hospital or playground for children. And the locals just do have to live without these basic amenities but have to also live in fear. For the past many years, reports of deaths and major incidents happen like land sliding, storeyed slums collapsing, children falling from the mountain road accidents.
