Local residents of the Shiravne village are up in arms against the civic body’s effort to construct a multipurpose building on an open plot, which they say is the last piece of playground left in the village. Villagers seem to be standing up for their own causes. After the battle led by Diwale villagers against CIDCO for tendering the plot they used for their social activities, now the villagers of Shiravne villagers have raised their voice against NMMC which is planning to construct a multipurpose building on an open plot in the village which is used by the villagers for their social activities like Navratri celebrations, children’s playground and others. Around 500 household have sent a written application to NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata with their protest. The signatories have stated that Gamdevi ground which is the only one ground of the village should be maintained by the civic body and not converted into any building. The condition of the ground is also in ruins with dumpers and trucks parked here. The residents have demanded that NMMC should develop the community centre here rather than snatch away the vacant plot. Three months back a request was sent to NMMC regarding this but till date no response have been received. The residents have threatened to take to streets if their demands are not met this time.
