Yes, indeed. Thane railway station has been crying for a much-needed facelift for a long time but was cold-shouldered all the time even though it has established an important link with Navi Mumbai recently. With several long-distance trains halting here, the passenger amenities are appalling to say the least. And that’s why commuters say that there MP should have this job on their to-do list. The first train in India chugged off from Thane Railway Station in 1853 and from that point Thane station has historic importance. But if you have traveled through the Thane Railway Station during peak-hours, you must have experienced how the existing foot-over bridges are bursting at the seams and the station resembles the Kumbh Mela crowd. Much has already been written about and it is high time that the authorities came down to brass tacks and implemented their proposals and stopped giving it a step-motherly treatment. Thane station deserves better, say commuters who spoke to NMTV News. Commuters say that the station should be converted as a model station from the view point of providing basic amenities, cleanliness, parking to ticketing counters, toilet facilities, parking lots in west that are in a very unorganized state. In fact, some spots have become the dumping ground for filth and rubbish on the east side. There is a manifold increase in the commuters at Thane railway station due to increase in the population in past few years. Recently with starting of new routes for Vashi and Panvel there is a further increase in commuters. Hence Thaneites are facing the hardships since a long time and demanding for better facilities from whoever becomes their MP. And looks like both the main candidates of the Thane constituency know for a fact that this is a job they have to have on their promise-list to voters. Speaking to NMTV News, NCP-Congress-RPI candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik voiced that he plans to give a complete makeover to Thane Railway Station if elected to power as a parliamentarian. On the other hand, his main arch rival in the election, Shiv Sena-BJP candidate Vijay Chougule too is promising better life for commuters of Thane if they elect him as their MP.
