After the 26/11 terror attacks, the most important issue is the security of coastal areas. For this purpose, Maharashtra Government has decided to secure the coastal areas. Therefore, an advanced mechanized speedboat has been introduced among the Thane rural police. Following the 26/11 terror attacks, the security of sea coast has become of utmost importance. Following this the state Government has decided to protect the sea coasts in Mumbai and adjoining areas by using advanced technology. For this a speedboat costing rupees 1.5 crores and weighing 5 tons has been bought for the Thane Rural Police department. At present there is only one boat for the 132 kilometer long coastline of Thane but after few days speed boats weighing 12 tons will be included soon. For the time being the speed boat meant for coastal security has been given to Thane rural police. Policemen have been briefed about the functions of the speedboat the responsibility has been given to the security division. In the state assembly monsoon session that concluded recently, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan too had said that not just coastal security but the state was focusing in enhancing security at all areas in the state.
