While the High Court has upheld the state’s decision of phasing out taxis more than 25 years old, SK Wheels situated in Turbhe have come as a relief for them. The company has started a scheme wherein they would be providing taxis at discounted rates. The models would include Omni, Wagon R and Alto models. S K wheels would also provide loan facility with the Chembur Nagarik Sahakari bank Ltd. The bank will be giving loans on EMI basis. The rate of interest would be 12% for group bookings and 14% for individual bookings. On the first day of the distribution, SK Wheels gave out 18 Omni cars to the taxi drivers. The keys were handed over to them by the CEO of SK Wheels and the bank authorities. We spoke to the CEO of SK Wheels, Gopalan who gave us more insight. We also spoke to the Director of The Chembur Nagrik Sahakari Bank Ltd, Sudhakar Phunde who expressed his happiness of being a part of this programme, which is formulated for the benefit of the taxi drivers. The taxi drivers have welcomed this scheme by S K Wheels. With Kala Jadhav, Vrushali Chitre for NMTV news.
